The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a major crackdown on pirate taxis, touts, and reckless drivers in Harare, resulting in 1,050 arrests since July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation aims to address growing concerns over road lawlessness, unregistered vehicles, and public frustration with the chaos caused by illegal transport operators in the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The ZRP reports that 1,050 arrests were effected in Harare as from July 22 during the current operation on pirate taxis and recklessness on the roads,” said a police spokesperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crackdown has also seen hundreds of vehicles impounded and scores of touts taken to court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are determined to restore order on our roads and ensure that all road users comply with the law,” said the police spokesperson. “This operation will continue until we achieve our objectives.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public has welcomed the initiative, citing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are tired of the chaos caused by pirate taxis and reckless drivers,” said a commuter. “We urge the police to continue with the operation and make our roads safer.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ZRP has warned that the operation will continue until all road offenders are brought to book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
