Zimbabwean sports administrator and African Squash Federation President, Dr. Lucky Mlilo, is spearheading efforts to revitalise and grow squash across the continent through a fact-finding mission covering all 25 member countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mlilo, a former chairman of the Squash Rackets Association of Zimbabwe (SRAZ), visited Sierra Leone recently as part of his continent-wide initiative supported by the World Squash Federation. The mission aims to evaluate the sport\u2019s development, identify challenges, and unlock growth potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Engaging with the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee (NOC), government sports authorities and local stakeholders, Dr. Mlilo highlighted the urgent need for greater access to international competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe must bridge the gap in coaching, officiating and facilities to position Africa competitively on the world stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He pledged increased investments in coaching and referee training programs, and revealed plans to source international equipment to meet shortages. Despite logistical and financial hurdles, he remains optimistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are mobilising resources to strengthen national associations and ensure consistent representation at global events.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit concluded with encouraging news Sierra Leone will participate in the Africa Seniors Championship in Uganda from November 17\u201322.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad we will see Sierra Leone represented, and I\u2019ll be there to welcome them,\u201d said Mlilo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NOC President Prince Sualley praised the squash body\u2019s grassroots initiatives, pledging full support for sustained development. In a symbolic exchange, both the visiting and host teams presented each other with branded kits, reinforcing a spirit of unity and cooperation in African sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
