Bulawayo \u2013 The High Court in Bulawayo has handed down two life sentences to Tafirei Ndlovu for the brutal 2022 axe murders of his in-laws in Plumtree, a crime prosecutors described as “premeditated and savagely executed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gruesome Double Murder<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ndlovu, aided by fugitive accomplice Kudzani Mathukuthu, attacked his father-in-law Xolani Mpofu and mother-in-law Sibalungele Ncube with axes in the dead of night on April 14, 2022. The court heard that the couple was dragged into a kitchen hut before the structure was set ablaze, burning their bodies beyond recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Justice Moyo, delivering the sentence, stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“The gratuitous violence, premeditation, and attempt to destroy evidence warrant the harshest penalty. Society must know such inhumanity will be met with the full force of the law.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Escape and Capture
The murders unfolded after Ndlovu lured the victims under false pretenses of reconciling with his estranged wife, Nomusa Nyoni. Nyoni\u2014who had fled the couple\u2019s 13-year marriage in Botswana weeks earlier\u2014witnessed the attack. Ndlovu then abducted her and forced her to illegally cross into Botswana, where she alerted authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\nNational Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mrs. Audrey Chogumaira emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“This tragedy underscores how domestic disputes escalate lethally when ignored. We urge communities to report warning signs immediately. One life lost is too many.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Justice Served, Hunt Continues<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Ndlovu begins concurrent life sentences, a manhunt for Mathukuthu remains active. Police appealed for public assistance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“Anyone with information on Mathukuthu\u2019s whereabouts should contact Plumtree CID. Do not approach him\u2014he is considered armed and dangerous.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
