{"id":775,"date":"2022-06-17T13:52:56","date_gmt":"2022-06-17T13:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=775"},"modified":"2022-06-17T13:52:58","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T13:52:58","slug":"cyclone-batsirai-wrecks-havoc-in-madagascar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=775","title":{"rendered":"Cyclone Batsirai Wrecks Havoc In Madagascar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>07 February 2022<br>Zim GBC News<br>Jeremiah Harrison<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Six people were reported dead on Saturday in southern Madagascar after Cyclone Batsirai made landfall, leaving buildings collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports emanating from the island state that Tropical Cyclone Batsirai swept inland late on Saturday, slamming into Madagascar\u2019s eastern coastline with heavy rains and wind speeds of 165 km\/h. It was projected it could displace as many as 150,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nosy Varika, a town on the coast of Madagascar was the most affected place in the country, there is heavy flooding and a number of buildings have collapsed leaving people homeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks ago the island was wrecked by another cyclone, Ana which is reported to have killed more than 55 people and displaced 130 000 others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/chat.whatsapp.com\/HLTr91OAOOZ3jHdEI7418Z\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyclone Batsirai also caused landslides in the central Madagascar region of Haute Mastiatra and villagers had to shovel mud from the roads on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week more than 80 people died in Mozambique, 99 were injured and thousands were affected by Tropical Cyclone Ana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Eastern parts of Zimbabwe, roads were damaged and bridges were swept away by the heavy rains as a result of tropical cyclone Ana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some parts of Zimbabwe experienced heavy rainfalls last week including Bulawayo, were some households were flooded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mateorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe issued a statement on Saturday saying that the Tropical Cyclone Batsirai which is over southern Madagascar is strengthening the south-easterly airflow into the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zim GBC News<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>07 February 2022Zim GBC NewsJeremiah Harrison Six people were reported dead on Saturday in southern Madagascar after Cyclone Batsirai made landfall, leaving buildings collapsed.
