HARARE \u2013 ZANU PF Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha has sought to downplay the ruling party\u2019s involvement in the contentious co-option of businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei into its Central Committee, describing him as merely \u201ca party supporter\u201d amid growing factional tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tagwirei, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was controversially appointed by ZANU PF\u2019s Harare Province, bypassing constitutional requirements for active and long-standing party membership. The move has sparked fierce debate within ZANU PF, with critics accusing Mnangagwa of manipulating party structures to consolidate his political and business interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a tense interview with ZimEye, Machacha struggled to justify Tagwirei\u2019s appointment, insisting that the businessman had \u201cstood with the party through thick and thin\u201d and contributed to economic stability.
