An altercation over a mere 5 Rands escalated into violence, leaving a vehicle vandalized and a young man injured. Proud Mwanza (20), an unemployed youth from Zimbabwe, faces two charges after allegedly hurling half-bricks at a car and assaulting Josi Abyolla (24) in a fit of rage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred in the early hours of February 22, 2025, at PP Jokes Shopping Centre in Newton West, Bulawayo. According to the complainant, the dispute turned violent when Mwanza began throwing half-bricks at Abyolla\u2019s vehicle, shattering both the driver\u2019s and passenger\u2019s windscreens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The accused threw half-bricks at the vehicle, damaging the windscreens,” said Abyolla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court concluded that Mwanza\u2019s actions were deliberate, given the destructive nature of the attack. But his aggression didn\u2019t end there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He then pushed me and struck me repeatedly with half-bricks on the face, chest, and left eye, showing no remorse,” Abyolla recounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutor Mr. Mehluli Ndlovu argued that Mwanza\u2019s choice of weapon demonstrated clear intent to harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He intended to cause bodily harm, fully aware of the risk when he threw stones at the vehicle. The damage and injuries were not accidental,” Ndlovu stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court emphasized the severity of Abyolla\u2019s injuries, urging a thorough medical evaluation. Authorities also cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, advising them to report disputes to the police instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, with many calling for increased police presence in the area to curb such violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The youth must learn to resolve conflicts through dialogue, not violence\u2014especially over something as trivial as 5 Rands,” said a community leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents hope the case will serve as a warning against reckless behavior, promoting peace and lawful conflict resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
