It also grants the government sweeping powers to monitor and suppress political organizations, activists, and journalists critical of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government officials insist the law is necessary to protect Zimbabwe from &#8220;malicious falsehoods&#8221; and foreign interference.
