{"id":7106,"date":"2025-05-29T15:59:26","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T15:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=7106"},"modified":"2025-05-29T15:59:27","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T15:59:27","slug":"comedy-meets-poetry-show-to-headline-bulawayo-arts-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=7106","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Comedy Meets Poetry&#8217; Show to Headline Bulawayo Arts Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Thando Siziba | Arts and Entertainment Reporter<br>Bulawayo \u2013 The Bulawayo Arts Festival opens tomorrow (30 May) with its flagship &#8220;Comedy Meets Poetry&#8221; event at Stanley Hall, the city\u2019s oldest traditional venue in Makokoba township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fusion showcase will feature prominent local artists including comedian Ntando van Moyo, performers Thaluso and Sgoqa the Poet, and comedians General Lesley and Nkosi King D&#8217;Jun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City of Bulawayo Arts, Culture and Heritage Officer Nomashawekazi Damasane told Zim GBC News this year\u2019s festival theme, &#8220;Celebrating Royalty,&#8221; honors cultural contributors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re not just showcasing performances \u2013 we\u2019re celebrating those who lift Bulawayo\u2019s name through their work and talent.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week-long festival highlights the city\u2019s legacy as Zimbabwe\u2019s cultural hub, though Damasane acknowledged challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Despite producing icons like Albert Nyathi, Sandra Ndebele, and Jeys Marabini, we face talent drain due to competition from Harare and South Africa.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stanley Hall, located in historic surbub Makokoba, will host multiple events aimed at reviving interest in local arts.
