Bulawayo \u2013 The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo is set to unveil a list of traffic offenders caught flouting laws by surveillance cameras in the City\u2019s Central Business District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The names are scheduled to be released this Friday, marking a significant move to increase accountability among motorists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi announced,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have the list and we will be making it public tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This initiative follows a similar crackdown in Harare, where 290 traffic violators were publicly named last week, signaling a robust effort to enforce traffic laws across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The surveillance cameras, secretly installed last August, have been monitoring the city center, capturing images of rogue motorists engaging in various infractions, from running red lights to reckless driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe eye in the sky never blinks, and thanks to these cameras, lawbreakers are finally being reeled in,\u201d Nyathi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Motorists whose names appear on the list will have seven days to report to the nearest police station. If they fail to do so, they could face increased penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nyathi emphasized that the operation is part of the new Electronic Traffic Management System, which aims to enhance road safety and deter traffic violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is no longer just a traffic violation; it\u2019s public humiliation,\u201d warned Nyathi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDrive dirty, and your name could be plastered all over town.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ZRP’s strategy aims to send a strong message that reckless driving will not be tolerated and that accountability is a key priority for the force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the countdown to the list’s release begins, Bulawayo residents and motorists are urged to adhere to traffic laws to avoid becoming part of the public shaming initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
