After winning his first two matches, Matunya faced a setback in the final, losing to an opponent who was later disqualified for a rules violation. The dramatic turn handed him the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow I\u2019m the Africa karate champion,\u201d he declared, his voice brimming with pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key to his success was the mentorship of Zimbabwe JKA Chief Instructor Shihan Phibeon Mudzenda, whom Matunya credited as the driving force behind his achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSituationally, I consider Shihan Phibion as my driver for this success,\u201d he said, recalling initial nerves during his first match against a black belt contender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis guidance helped me conquer fear and focus on technique.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matunya\u2019s coach, Sensei Julias Dzikiti of the Japan Karate Association, hailed the win as a watershed moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe outdid himself,\u201d Dzikiti said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWinning gold against seasoned competitors from powerhouses like South Africa and Kenya is superb by any standard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dzikiti believes this is just the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf he keeps working hard, he can achieve greatness globally,\u201d he added, emphasizing Matunya\u2019s potential on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, Matunya aims to join elite karate clubs for advanced training as he prepares for the World Cup.
