Shabanie Mine FC alleged the violence began when Gwanda Pirates player Tawanda Sianchali elbowed their midfielder Edward Tapfuma, prompting teammate Trevor Moyo to retaliate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tensions escalated as Gwanda Pirates supporters reportedly hurled stones onto the pitch, injuring players and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Shabanie Mine FC claimed the situation worsened when a Gwanda Pirates player allegedly fired \u201ctwo gunshots into the air\u201d\u2014an accusation the latter vehemently denied. The home team also reported that two of its supporters were \u201cfatally stabbed\u201d in the stands, with one victim seen \u201clying in a pool of blood\u201d after a knife attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gwanda Pirates, however, countered these allegations, stating their fans, players, and officials were subjected to \u201csustained provocation,\u201d including tribal slurs and projectile attacks. The club accused Shabanie Mine FC of failing to provide adequate security, despite seating their supporters in the VIP section as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigation and Corrective Measures<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ZIFA condemned the violence as \u201cdeeply troubling and completely unacceptable,\u201d vowing to hold accountable those responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a 19 May statement, the association announced a review of match-day security protocols, stricter crowd control measures, and disciplinary action against individuals or clubs found negligent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) intervened to disperse the crowd, escorting Gwanda Pirates\u2019 team bus safely to the Mberengwa Turn Off. Medical personnel treated the injured at Zvishavane Hospital, with all players and staff returning to Gwanda by 11:30 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Club Statements: Conflicting Accounts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shabanie Mine FC denied responsibility, stating they were \u201cvictims of sustained assault\u201d and rejecting claims of fan misconduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club also alleged that Gwanda Pirates\u2019 media personnel were attacked and their equipment vandalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gwanda Pirates dismissed the gunshot claims as \u201cimplausible,\u201d asserting no players or officials carry firearms.
