HARARE \u2014 The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the illegal acquisition of firearms, highlighting the alarming trend of such weapons being used to commit serious crimes, including robberies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement released by national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the police expressed deep concern over the growing proliferation of firearms across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Zimbabwe Republic Police has noted with great concern the proliferation of firearms countrywide, most of which are acquired illegally and exacerbate the commission of heinous crimes,\u201d Nyathi stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police emphasized that the regulation and issuance of firearm certificates fall solely under the jurisdiction of the Controller of Firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe public is advised that any individual found in possession of firearms without proper certification will face legal consequences,\u201d Nyathi warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the police highlighted the issue of firearm holders neglecting to renew their licenses and certificates, as well as failing to inform authorities about changes in their business or residential addresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has also been noted with great concern that some firearms holders are no longer renewing their firearms licenses and certificates,\u201d Nyathi explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAny deviation from the regulations regarding firearms possession and certification is a chargeable offence under the Firearms Act Chapter 10.09.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ZRP urges all citizens to adhere to the laws governing firearm possession to ensure public safety and reduce crime rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the police intensify their efforts to combat illegal firearms, they remind the community of their responsibility to report any suspicious activities related to firearms acquisition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
