Harare \u2013 The Zimbabwe Senior Men\u2019s National Football Team, the Warriors, will face Burkina Faso and Niger in international friendlies next month as part of preparations for upcoming FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The matches, scheduled for June 6 and June 10 respectively, will be held in Casablanca, Morocco. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed the fixtures in a press statement, emphasizing their importance in fine-tuning the squad ahead of crucial competitive matches later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Strategic Preparation for Key Tournaments<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZIFA\u2019s media and communications department highlighted the significance of the friendlies, stating that they will allow head coach Michael Nees to assess his squad and build cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These matches present an important opportunity for Michael Nees and his technical team to assess player readiness, test combinations, and build cohesion as the team continues its journey for growth and development on the international stage,” read the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Both Burkina Faso and Niger offer strong opposition, and these encounters will provide valuable competitive experience for our squad.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tough Tests Against African Giants<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burkina Faso, known as the Stallions, are a formidable African side featuring top European-based players such as Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Dango Ouattara (AFC Bournemouth), and Aston Villa\u2019s Bertrand Traor\u00e9. Zimbabwe last faced them in the 2021 AFCON group stage, suffering a 3-1 defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the Warriors have a slightly better record against Niger, winning two of their last five encounters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
