Filabusi District, Zimbabwe \u2013 In a notable political shift ahead of the upcoming by-elections on June 14, Leslie Dube, a Ward 15 Councillor for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has announced his resignation from the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dube expressed a desire for a more effective strategy to challenge the ruling ZANU PF\u2019s dominance, particularly in rural constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Acting CCC President Professor Welshman Ncube, Dube stated,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I have come to the difficult conclusion that I can no longer carry out this mission from within the CCC under the current circumstances.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that his decision followed \u201cextensive reflection on the state of our democratic struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dube is set to contest the Insiza North parliamentary by-election as an independent candidate. He articulated his motivation, saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis task requires a bold and independent stance, unencumbered by the internal challenges currently affecting our movement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He believes that confronting the “tyranny and oppression” in rural Zimbabwe necessitates a more direct approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While resigning from the CCC, Dube made it clear that this move should not be interpreted as abandoning the democratic cause. Instead, he sees it as a strategic redirection of his political energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI remain committed to justice, democratic change, and the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe, particularly the marginalized rural communities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dube expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under Professor Ncube’s leadership and to collaborate with “many other cadres who have sacrificed for the vision of a free and democratic Zimbabwe.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His resignation letter was also shared with Mr. Sengezo Tshabangu, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, and Mr. Promise Mkwananzi, underscoring his ongoing engagement with national opposition leadership despite parting ways with the CCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The implications of Dube’s resignation and his independent candidacy could significantly alter the political dynamics in Insiza North, an area where ZANU PF has maintained a stronghold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His departure adds to a growing list of CCC defections and internal dissent that have surfaced amid ongoing turmoil within the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of now, the Citizens Coalition for Change has not issued a response to Dube\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
