{"id":6825,"date":"2025-05-12T11:28:53","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T11:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=6825"},"modified":"2025-05-12T11:28:54","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T11:28:54","slug":"eleven-dead-in-separate-highway-crashes-across-zimbabwe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=6825","title":{"rendered":"Eleven Dead in Separate Highway Crashes Across Zimbabwe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Harare Correspondent<br>Zimbabwe&#8217;s roads have turned deadly this week, with eleven lives lost in three separate accidents across major highways, police confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have issued fresh warnings to motorists about reckless driving and dangerous overtaking maneuvers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gweru Bus Crash Claims Five Lives<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most devastating incident occurred on 7 May when a Hungwe bus overturned at Fairmile roundabout along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Five passengers died instantly when the bus failed to navigate the roundabout,&#8221; said police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eighteen of the 21 injured have been discharged from Gweru General Hospital, while three remain under medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victims include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nyasha Enifa (30), Murambinda<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beauty Tore (36), Dangamvura, Mutare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mercy Nhaka (48), Torwood, Kwekwe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Julian Dlamini (20), Adelaide Park, Gweru<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kunashe Murewa (4), Macheke, Marondera<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Headlands Truck Collision Kills Two<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two days later on 9 May, a horrific collision occurred along the Harare-Mutare Road when a Hino truck was sideswiped during an overtaking attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The impact caused the truck to veer off-road and roll onto its side,&#8221; Nyathi explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Two passengers in the loading box were ejected and fatally struck by tobacco bailing equipment.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deceased were identified as Tapera Macheka and Sabstin Mupfumi, both from Headlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harare Hit-and-Run Leaves Three Dead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate Budiriro incident the same day, three pedestrians died when struck by a runaway Fuso truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police revealed the vehicle had been involved in an earlier collision with a Ford truck that fled the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A high-speed chase ensued before the Fuso lost control at the Kushanda Crescent intersection,&#8221; Nyathi stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The truck had no passengers aboard at the time of the fatal crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police Issue Stern Warning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commissioner Nyathi emphasized the need for road safety:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists must abide by traffic regulations to prevent these needless tragedies.
