HARARE \u2014 The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Jeffrey Mubaiwa, managing director of JEFFM AUCTIONS (Pvt) Ltd, on charges of theft of trust property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities allege that Mubaiwa was hired by state-owned NetOne (Pvt) Ltd to auction obsolete equipment, furniture, and vehicles, raising $172,204 during the July 13 auction. However,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Mubaiwa was required to remit the proceeds within 48 hours but allegedly deposited only US$39,000, keeping US$133,204 for personal use.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mubaiwa appeared in the Harare Magistrates’ Court and was released on US$100 bail. He is set to return to court on Nov. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Masvingo Police Hunt for Suspects in Ngundu Armed Robbery<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MASVINGO \u2014 Police in Masvingo are investigating an armed robbery in Ngundu where four gunmen stole over US$46,000 and nearly 1 million South African rand from a money transfer outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred on Nov. 25 when the suspects, armed with pistols, intercepted a teller on his way home after work. They forced him back into the shop, compelled him to open the safe, and fled with US$46,349 and ZAR 924,100 in cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities have urged anyone with information to report to their nearest police station as investigations continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local Government Official Arrested for Extortion Over Land Deal<\/p>\n\n\n\n
HARARE \u2014 The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Everest Nyamadzawo, an official in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, on extortion charges involving residential stands valued at more than US$300,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nyamadzawo, 39, allegedly demanded eight residential stands from Cabletron Enterprises in exchange for expediting paperwork for compensation linked to 30,773 hectares of land owed to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZACC stated that despite Ministerial approval for the compensation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Nyamadzawo and accomplices allegedly delayed processing the documents to coerce Cabletron Enterprises into meeting their demands.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He appeared in the Harare Magistrates\u2019 Court, where he was released on US$100 bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His case has been remanded to Feb. 12, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
