International Cricket Council (ICC) U-19 World Cup kicked off last week in West Indies with Zimbabwe bowling an impressive performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The young Chevrons beat fellow Africans Papua New Guinea by a massive 228 runs in their first group match played at Queen’s Park Oval in the Port of Spain Trinidad and Tobago last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zimbabwe batted first scoring 329\/9 in 50 overs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 330 the target to chase for Papua New Guinea, the score was too much for the African rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They could not handle the pressure exerted by Zimbabwe bowlers in their innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They managed to bat for only 35 overs scoring 93 runs all out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zimbabwe bowlers were on fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victor Chiwara collected two wickets for 11 runs in seven overs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also two wickets apiece for Ngenyasha Zvinoera and Brian Bennett while Tendekai Mataranyika as well as Connor Mitchell had one wicket each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The win saw Zimbabwe pick up two points which put them on top of Group C, a pool which also consists of Afghanistan and Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zimbabwe captain Emmanuel Bawa was the man to watch as he scored a century from 95 deliveries, he registered 10 bounderies and a six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was his second century at U-19 World Cup after his first was in South Africa two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Young Chevrons faces Pakistan in their second match which will be played on Tuesday before facing Afghanistan on Saturday<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
