A heartbreaking incident occurred in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, where Inobubele Mhlanga, a 23-year-old fashion design student at Bulawayo Polytechnic, was tragically stabbed to death on her way home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack happened around 7 PM after she had just exited a commuter omnibus. Witnesses reported that a lone robber targeted her, and despite attempts by a nearby motorist to intervene, the assailant escaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community Response<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The community is in shock and mourning the loss of a promising young woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Geshon Mhlanga, Inobubele’s father, expressed his devastation upon learning of his daughter’s death at the hospital, where he had rushed with hopes of finding her alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the capture of the robber, who remains at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I was told that my daughter had been taken to hospital yesterday around 7 pm and I rushed there, only to be told that she had passed away.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An uncle to the deceased, Sikhathele Mhlanga also shared the same concerns,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’m at a loss of words, the community must come together to make sure that such a brutal attack doesn’t happen again as we will continue to lose lives at the hands of these criminals.” He lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigation and Safety Concerns<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initial examinations revealed that Inobubele sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest and arms, indicating a violent struggle. Interestingly, all her belongings, including her laptop and cellphone, were found at the scene, suggesting that the attack may not have been motivated by robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This incident marks the third violent attack in Cowdray Park in recent times, raising serious concerns about safety in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community leaders, including Mr. Chipa Nechironga who is the Chairman of the Resident Association committee, highlighted the need for renewed neighborhood patrols, which had ceased due to funding issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents are now urged to come together to enhance safety measures and prevent further tragedies, as fear grips the community following this brutal attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Nechironga, each member of the neighbourhood watch is supposed to receive USD$100 per month, contributed by the residents at USD$2 per household per month<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s up to the residents to stand and take action against these criminal activities. Our children are now afraid of walking after dark as a result of these continuous attacks that have resulted in the death of an innocent young woman.” he said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comment from the Zimbabwe Republic Police was not forthcoming but sources claim that investigations are in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
