This development is expected to lead to the reconnection of water at Empumalanga Phase 4 Stage II, which has been disconnected for over six months.

Greater Whange Residents Trust co-ordinator Fidelis Chima welcomed the resolution, stating,

“We are happy that the impasse between HLB and Zinwa has been resolved and residents of Phase 4 will finally access water.”

However, Chima emphasized that water distribution should remain under council management, as ZINWA’s takeover “is against the spirit of devolution”.

The signing of the MoU marks a crucial step towards resolving the water crisis in Empumalanga. With ZINWA’s involvement, residents can expect improved water management and supply. As the project progresses, it’s essential to ensure that the needs and concerns of the community are addressed.

Key Takeaways:

HLB and ZINWA signed an MoU on September 27, 2024

MoU aims to resolve the Empumalanga water project impasse

Water reconnection expected at Empumalanga Phase 4 Stage II

Community concerns regarding devolution and water management remain

Zim GBC News©2024

Own Correspondent Hwange Local Board (HLB) and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) have taken a significant step towards resolving their longstanding impasse over the Empumalanga water project.
