In a shocking incident today, National Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that armed robbers targeted a cash-in-transit van at an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo, making off with over US$4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are investigating how this robbery took place. It appears there was inside involvement,\u201d Commissioner Nyathi stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The robbery occurred around 1500 hours. According to a bank employee,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe money was being taken to Harare by Safeguard security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The employee further explained,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe robbers took the money from the security guards\u2019 hands outside the bank when they were about to load it into the car.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An eyewitness provided harrowing details of the event, saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe robbers were six in total and all had massive, dangerous guns. The first robber jumped out of the open Ford Ranger, shouting for everyone to get down and preparing his weapon. Within a split second, the other five jumped out and snatched the trunks from the Safeguard security guards. The guards couldn\u2019t do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The eyewitness continued,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe robbers\u2019 car sped straight down 9th Avenue towards Chicken Slice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
