{"id":4508,"date":"2024-10-02T13:56:42","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T13:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=4508"},"modified":"2024-10-02T13:56:44","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T13:56:44","slug":"mpilo-hospital-fake-doctor-remanded-in-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=4508","title":{"rendered":"Mpilo Hospital Fake Doctor Remanded in Custody"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Innocent Sibonginkosi Ncube<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, a 29-year-old fake medical doctor, has been remanded in custody after appearing before a Bulawayo magistrate on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanhuvaone, also known as Prosper Mpofu, faces charges of contravening the Health Professions Act and two counts of fraud. He allegedly prescribed Lacto, a fermented fresh milk product, for a heart ailment and duped a nurse aid student out of US$1,600 by promising to secure her attachment at Mpilo Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before his arrest, Vanhuvaone had convinced some hospital staff that he was a qualified doctor. However, his luck ran out when he wrote a suspicious prescription that included Lacto and fruits like apples and grapes for a patient with a heart condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thabani Ndlovu, whose wife has a heart condition, shared his experience with the fake doctor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We came to the hospital looking for him, but he wasn\u2019t around. He told us to wait, so we joined the outpatient queue. When he arrived, he took us to a room where hospital authorities arrested him.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanhuvaone has a history of impersonation, having previously claimed to be a fifth-year medical student when charged with assault in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In court, Vanhuvaone begged for bail, citing his constitutional right as a Zimbabwean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Bail is a constitutional right for all Zimbabweans\u2026 I would like to ask the court for bail as I never ran away from the police when they confronted me,&#8221; he pleaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the State opposed bail, arguing that Vanhuvaone is a flight risk due to the severity of the offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case has been remanded to September 23 for a bail ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charges Against Vanhuvaone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contravening the Health Professions Act<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two counts of fraud<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous assault charge in 2022<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zim GBC News\u00a92024<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Innocent Sibonginkosi Ncube Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, a 29-year-old fake medical doctor, has been remanded in custody after appearing before a Bulawayo magistrate on Thursday.
