At 78, Mukwamba&#8217;s life is a stark contrast to his glory days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I survive on selling my musical CDs to motorists and passersby for US$1 in Rusape. My situation is not pleasing at all. In a day, I sometimes get between US$2 and US$7, and such meager amounts are supposed to cater for my daily basic needs,&#8221; Mukwamba shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mukwamba&#8217;s struggles began in 1987 when his band member had an affair with his wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;She vowed that wherever I go or anything that I try to do will never work for the whole of my life,&#8221; he recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, Mukwamba has faced numerous challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Life of Hardship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sells CDs for US$1 to make ends meet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performs menial jobs, such as gardening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lives in a house offered by a Good Samaritan for free<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hasn&#8217;t seen his three children in years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lost contact with his children, who reside in South Africa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Seeking Help<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mukwamba has sought help from various sources, including prophets and traditional healers, to break the cycle of misfortune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I have met so many people who have promised to help solve my problems\u2026 I once sought help from a vapostori prophet in Bocha, Manicaland province\u2026 I also consulted many traditional healers, but to date, I have not seen any change in my life,&#8221; he lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite setbacks, Mukwamba remains hopeful. &#8220;I feel I can make a hit out of the songs [album] I have, which I cannot record because nothing will work due to this bad luck.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Legacy Forgotten<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mukwamba&#8217;s story serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of fame and the harsh realities of life beyond the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I tried to check with the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association for my music royalties, only to discover they had only US$28.
