Police in Banket have launched an investigation into the death of 40-year-old George Mpofu, who was found hanging from a tree with his feet touching the ground, raising doubts about the official suicide ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are still waiting for the post-mortem results to determine the cause of death,” said Constable Charles Murefu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The circumstances surrounding Mpofu’s death are suspicious, and we need to get to the bottom of it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a police report, Mpofu had a scuffle with his wife Nyadzisai Zungunde earlier that day, which ended with them agreeing to seek counseling. However, Mpofu reportedly changed his mind and threatened to commit suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I thought he was just saying that out of anger, but I never thought he would actually do it,” Zungunde said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’m still in shock and can’t believe he’s gone.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police report notes that Mpofu’s body was found semi-naked with a blood-stained t-shirt nearby, and a wooden stick with blood on it was recovered from the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The fact that his legs were touching the ground and there was a stick nearby suggests that something else might have happened,” said Murefu. “We need to investigate further to determine the truth.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police are still waiting for the post-mortem results from Banket Hospital to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Mpofu’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
