“We take drug dealing very seriously, and it’s even more concerning when it involves a young person,” said Harare magistrate Simon Kandiyero during the court appearance of 19-year-old Cain Sakudya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sakudya was remanded in custody until August 15 after being accused of selling drugs from a car park in Dzivarasekwa 3. Prosecutor Thomas Chanakira alleged that detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit caught Sakudya in the act on August 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We received a tip-off that Sakudya was dealing drugs from the car park, and our detectives went undercover to gather evidence,” said Chanakira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When we approached him, he had a satchel containing small sachets of crystal meth, and he was arrested on the spot.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sakudya’s lawyer, however, argued that his client was innocent until proven guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We will be approaching the High Court for bail, as we believe our client has a strong case,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case has raised concerns about drug dealing and substance abuse among young people in Harare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s a growing problem, and we need to work together to address it,” said Kandiyero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sakudya’s case will continue on August 15, and he faces severe penalties if found guilty. As Chanakira noted, “Dealing drugs is a serious offense, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
