A church building belonging to South African preacher Pastor Mboro, also known as Paseka Motsoeneng, was set on fire on Tuesday, with several schoolchildren in uniforms seen fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Gauteng provincial education MEC Matome Chiloane, “Disturbingly, another man is seen grabbing two learners, who were caught in the crossfire of this violent ordeal, while another is wielding an assault rifle.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident follows a conflict between two families over the custody of two boy learners enrolled at a Katlehong school, which led to Pastor Mboro arriving at the school with bodyguards and weapons on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an audio recording, Pastor Mboro explained his actions, saying, “They were throwing stones at my son and while they were kicking him, I ran to fetch the panga. If you know that your child is locked up and is being beaten, you go fetch a panga because you don\u2019t want your son to use a firearm\u2026 I am ready to die for my son.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed that Pastor Mboro and three others are facing charges, including assault and intimidation, and are expected to appear in court soon. “They are facing a variety of charges\u2026 The replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
