{"id":3013,"date":"2023-09-07T08:47:50","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T08:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=3013"},"modified":"2023-09-07T08:47:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T08:47:52","slug":"bulawayo-councilors-sworn-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=3013","title":{"rendered":"BULAWAYO COUNCILORS SWORN IN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Patricia Moyo<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>THE newly elected 29 Bulawayo City Council (BCC) councilors were sworn in yesterday at the Bulawayo City Hall to commence their official duties for the local authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party swept all the seats in the city&#8217;s 29 wards, and former Education Minister and Ward 4 councilor, David Colt is expected to become the new Mayor for Bulawayo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new councillors were sworn in, in terms of Section 47(3) of the Urban Councils Act Chapter 29:15, which stipulates that before undertaking any duty, a councillor shall take and subscribe before the town clerk of the council such oath of loyalty and office as may be prescribed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking after the swearing in ceremony, Anold Batirai, Ward 24 Councilor said the government issued a directive to the new councilors to elect the Mayor during the first council meeting. The meeting will be held next week Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But the government is giving unconstitutional directive that we are suppose to go in for an induction training. Then we come back later, and do the selection of the mayor, and deputy mayor, which is very unconstitutional,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Batirai said it is a pity that the government has given a directive which is very unconstitutional.
