The date, 15 March marks the day Zimbabwe lost a young artist Sam Mtukudzi who was the son to legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sam died together with his sound engineer, Owen Chimhare on 15 March 2010 in car crash along the Harare-Bulawayo highway near a bridge in Kuwadzana Extension on his way to Norton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zimbabweans have shown that they still remember the late son to Tuku with his sister\/ songstress Selmor Mtukudzi, marking the anniversary of his passing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He was only 21years old when he passed away 13years ago today. Mamwe maronda haapore zvachose. #ripSam
Do you have any song of Sam’s you like?”, twitted Selmor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sam was a talented musician who was born on the 1st of April 1988, and unfortunately passed away at the young age of 21 in a car accident. He followed his father\u2019s footsteps to become a musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sam began his music career at a young age, playing the drums for his father\u2019s band, The Black Spirits. He later formed his own jazz-influenced band called ‘Ay Band’ with whom he recorded his debut album, ‘Rume Rimwe’ which he released in 2008. Sam was known for his unique blend of traditional Zimbabwean music and modern sounds, as well as his thoughtful and socially conscious lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After graduating high school, Sam joined his father on tours playing the saxophone and a guitar. He also had recorded two solo albums. His father introduced him as “the future” to appreciative crowds at a British nightclub in late 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite his short career, Sam Mtukudzi left a lasting impact on the Zimbabwean and African music scene. His untimely death was a great loss to the industry, but his music continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
