The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has announced new measures aimed at improving efficiency at border posts while promoting fair trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a notice to travellers and cross-border traders, the authority said border processes are being strengthened to improve efficiency and promote fair trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the updated guidelines, travellers are reminded that,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe personal travellers\u2019 rebate is US$200 per person per calendar month, subject to prescribed conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZIMRA said any goods exceeding this threshold would attract duty, adding: \u201cPersonal goods exceeding the US$200 limit will be charged duty on the excess value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authority also clarified the distinction between personal and commercial goods, warning that<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBulk goods intended for resale or in commercial quantities are classified as commercial consignments and must be cleared through licensed clearing agents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, some flexibility has been introduced for smaller consignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Commercial consignments of less than US$1,000 in value can be cleared at ZIMRA counters without engaging clearing agents,\u201d ZIMRA noted<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of efforts to reduce congestion at border posts, the authority said travellers would be given priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPassengers will continue to be prioritised for faster processing, while commercial cargo will be handled separately,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Travellers have also been urged to comply with regulations to avoid unnecessary delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTravellers are encouraged to declare goods accurately and utilise pre-clearance facilities to avoid delays,\u201d ZIMRA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authority added that the changes are intended to streamline operations and improve the overall border experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese measures are designed to ensure a smooth, fair and efficient border experience for all,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
