A high-stakes endurance race will set the stage for the 2026 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), with more than 150 cyclists expected to battle it out in the 100 Miler Classic \u2014 a demanding long-distance challenge from Gweru to Bulawayo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organised by the ZITF Company in partnership with the Flying Eagles Cycling Club, the race is emerging as one of the headline curtain-raisers to this year\u2019s trade showcase, blending sport with national economic momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flagship 100-mile race will start at 6:30am from Fairmile Hotel in Gweru, while shorter 50-mile and 25-mile categories will begin in Insiza and Mbembesi respectively \u2014 all converging at Khumalo Hockey Stadium in Bulawayo before the 1:00pm cut-off time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZITF Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, Thandolwenkosi Nkomo, said the race is deliberately positioned to inject energy into the exhibition week while broadening participation beyond traditional business platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is more than just a race \u2014 it\u2019s about creating momentum ahead of ZITF. We are bringing together sport, business and tourism in a way that allows people to connect even before the exhibition begins,\u201d Nkomo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With participation cutting across amateur and elite cyclists, organisers say the event has drawn nationwide interest, reflecting growing enthusiasm for endurance sport in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flying Eagles Race Coordinator Anton Bhana said preparations have intensified as anticipation builds within the cycling community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have over 150 cyclists registered, and the excitement is tangible. This race is not just about competition \u2014 it\u2019s about pushing limits and completing a tough journey. That\u2019s what makes it special,\u201d Bhana said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The race\u2019s demanding route is expected to test both physical and mental endurance, with riders navigating long distances under strict time limits \u2014 adding a competitive edge to the opening of the country\u2019s premier trade event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organisers say the initiative also reflects ZITF\u2019s evolving approach to engagement, positioning the fair as more than a business exhibition but a broader platform that integrates lifestyle, sport and national branding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Safety measures remain in place, with participants required to comply with a strict \u201cno helmet, no ride\u201d rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
