Nigeria, Jamaica and India bring different footballing philosophies, and that is exactly the kind of test we need ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers,” the source said.

The tournament forms part of a broader strategy that began earlier this year, including coach Marian Marinica’s European scouting mission aimed at identifying eligible talent to represent Zimbabwe.

The timing is deliberate, coming ahead of a demanding international calendar. Zimbabwe is preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year, while also keeping an eye on longer-term ambitions of qualifying for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

ZIFA is focused on building a competitive and adaptable squad capable of handling high-pressure matches against stronger opposition.

The England tournament will also give the technical team a chance to evaluate players beyond the regular starting lineup. This need became evident during the recent campaign in Botswana, where injuries forced the coaching staff to rely heavily on a limited group of players, particularly in the final stages of the tournament.

Several players are still waiting for opportunities to prove themselves, including goalkeeper Marley Tavaziva, who is yet to make his senior international debut despite multiple call-ups.

With stronger opposition and higher stakes, the England assignment is expected to test the Warriors’ depth, mentality and tactical flexibility. It also marks a key phase in the team’s rebuilding journey, as ZIFA and the technical team look to shape a squad capable of competing consistently at the highest level.

Follow Zim GBC News for more updates:
· X (Twitter): @ZimGbc
· Instagram: @ZimGBCNews
· TikTok: @ZimGBCNews_01
· Facebook: Zim GBC News
· YouTube: Zim GBC News

Get real-time alerts on WhatsApp:
+263 773 820 323

For in-depth coverage, visit our website:
www.zimgbcnews.co.zw

Zim GBC News | Global News From An African Perspective©2026

Zim GBC News | Sports Correspondent HARARE – The Zimbabwe senior men’s national team is set for a major step up in competition after the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) secured…

[9

post-12875","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports
["GET
