\u200ePolice have issued a strong warning to motorists following a surge in road traffic accidents that left two people dead and 20 others injured in the past week.

\u200eIn a statement, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Press and Public Relations Officer for the Bulawayo District, said a total of 94 accidents were recorded during the same period, raising concern over road safety as the rainy season continues.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cTwo people have passed away following motor vehicle accidents. Twenty others were injured and taken to hospitals, while a total of 94 accidents were recorded this week,\u201d she said.
\u200e
\u200eInspector Msebele urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly on wet roads, warning against speeding and reckless behavior.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cThe rain has fallen. Let us travel with great caution on the road. Let us move with care; do not rush just for the sake of arriving,\u201d she said.
\u200e
\u200eShe emphasized the need for patience and consideration among road users, noting that many accidents are avoidable if drivers act responsibly.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cLet us be patient with one another, let us travel safely because, in the end, families are left suffering due to road traffic accidents. People are dying and entering into mourning because of these incidents,\u201d she added.
\u200e
\u200eInspector Msebele also expressed frustration over growing cases of traffic violations by commuter omnibus drivers, particularly in congested parts of the city.
\u200e
\u200eShe cited a recent incident at the busy intersection of 3rd Avenue and Bash Street, where a kombi driver allegedly stopped at a corner to drop off passengers, causing a traffic obstruction.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cToday I rebuked a kombi driver severely. In the midst of congestion, you want to stop right there to drop off passengers. What kind of bad habit is that?\u201d she said.
\u200e
\u200eShe stressed that stopping at corners is not only illegal but also dangerous, especially on narrow roads where vehicles are already struggling to move safely.
\u200e
\u200eInspector Msebele called on all motorists to be mindful of others on the road and to avoid selfish behavior that contributes to congestion and accidents.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cThink of other people. Do not drive only your own car; consider the one in front of you, the one behind you, and those beside you,\u201d she said.
\u200e
\u200eShe further highlighted congestion along Robert Mugabe Way, where illegal stopping by kombi drivers continues to disrupt the flow of traffic.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cThis results in unnecessary traffic congestion because of our selfishness. Let us avoid such things that cause congestion on our roads,\u201d she added.
\u200e
\u200ePolice have since urged all road users to comply with traffic laws and prioritize safety to prevent further loss of life.
\u200e
\u200e\u201cWe must be law-abiding as we go about our daily activities. Together, we can reduce these accidents,\u201d Inspector Msebele said.
