{"id":12788,"date":"2026-03-23T12:22:43","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T12:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=12788"},"modified":"2026-03-23T12:22:47","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T12:22:47","slug":"government-opens-call-for-honours-and-awards-nominations-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=12788","title":{"rendered":"Government Opens Call for Honours and Awards Nominations for 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Monday 23 March 2026<br>Zim GBC News | Harare Correspondent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harare, Zimbabwe \u2013 The Government of Zimbabwe has officially opened the call for nominations for the 2026 Honours and Awards, inviting citizens and organizations to put forward deserving individuals whose outstanding contributions have left an indelible mark on the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a press release issued by the Office of the President and Cabinet, the government announced that it intends to award eligible and deserving Zimbabwean citizens across a comprehensive range of honours, celebrating excellence in fields spanning bravery, humanitarian service, economic development, and the arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The call, which closes on Thursday, 30 April 2026, seeks to identify &#8220;luminaries who meet the eligibility criteria for the award under which they are nominated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominees are expected to be acclaimed, undisputed leaders in their respective sectors, with achievements that are both outstanding and enduring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The individuals should be luminaries who meet the eligibility criteria for the award under which they are nominated,&#8221; read the press release signed by Dr. M. Rushwaya, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are hereby inviting nominations of people, in your sector, eligible for conferment with any of the Honours and Awards of Zimbabwe.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government emphasized that each nomination must be accompanied by a detailed justification, which can be presented in the form of a citation or a relevant document that celebrates and immortalizes the achievement for posterity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Please note that each nomination should be accompanied by a justification in the form of a brief detailed profile on the achievements for which the individual is deemed deserving of this special recognition and national honour,&#8221; the release stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Comprehensive Framework of National Recognition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Honours and Awards system is structured across several prestigious categories, each with specific criteria designed to honour different forms of exceptional service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bravery Awards recognize acts of courage under perilous conditions. This category includes the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe (G.C.Z.), awarded for conspicuous bravery in circumstances of extreme peril; the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe (S.C.Z.), for bravery in great peril; and the Bronze Cross of Zimbabwe (B.C.Z.), for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commendation Awards feature the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Commendation Award for Service in Human Capital Development, conferred for transformative service that has opened up new economic sectors while ensuring inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Order of the Great Zimbabwe, the Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Commendation Award for Community Development, Peace Building and Fostering Unity will be conferred for outstanding and consistent transformative service in improving livelihoods at the community level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Order of the Munhumutapa honours brothers and sisters from other states for their exceptional sacrifice towards Zimbabwe&#8217;s liberation and well-being, featuring the Herbert Wiltshire Pfumaindini Chitepo Commendation Award for Justice and Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Zimbabwe International Friendship Award is reserved for foreigners and foreign organizations that have made great contributions to building solidarity ties with Zimbabwe and contributing to the nation&#8217;s socio-economic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jairos Jiri Humanitarian Award will be conferred on persons who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of humanity through humanitarian service, honouring the virtues of concern for the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Order of the Star of Zimbabwe features several medal variants. The Platinum Medal is conferred on members of the Uniformed Forces and civilians for meritorious service to Zimbabwe or humanity at large. The Gold Medal recognizes exceptional performance in Public Service, Defence and Security. The Silver Medal honours distinction in Academic and Research, Business and Economics, and Social Services. The Bronze Medal is conferred on eminent achievers in Arts, Culture, Sports and Entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Historical Legacy Award may be conferred on Zimbabweans who have selflessly dedicated themselves to the preservation of Zimbabwe&#8217;s peace, order, sovereignty, integrity and unity, thereby fostering socio-economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nomination Process and Deadline<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations may be submitted by post to The Acting Registrar, Honours and Awards, Private Bag 7700, Causeway, Harare, or delivered by hand to the 9th Floor, Club Chambers Building, Corner N. Mandela Avenue and P.
