President Nelson Chamisa has issued a strong condemnation of what his office describes as an escalating wave of brutal attacks and intimidation against citizens opposing proposed constitutional amendments, warning that the country is facing a deep crisis of governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement released by his Bureau of Communications on Sunday, the opposition leader framed the recent violence not as isolated incidents, but as a calculated strategy by the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat we are witnessing is not isolated misconduct, nor is it sporadic disorder. It is an orchestrated campaign designed to instil fear, suffocate the will of the people, silence their voice, and strip Citizens of their constitutional authority,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Chamisa argued that the push for the contested constitutional amendments is the clearest sign of a broader governance failure. He stated that resorting to violence is an admission of a lack of popular support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen those in power abandon persuasion for persecution, and dialogue for brutality, they reveal a glaring confession of weakness, evidence of eroded public trust, diminished legitimacy, and a collapsing social contract,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResorting to violence as a tool of coercion is proof of lost confidence and lack of Citizen support. A leadership secure in its mandate does not fear dissent; it engages it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement from the former opposition leader also took aim at the unequal application of the law in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo one is above the law. The law must shield every citizen equally, not serve as a weapon for the powerful and a burden for the powerless. Justice must operate without fear or favour,\u201d the communique added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Chamisa concluded by rallying citizens to collective action in the face of the deteriorating political situation. He urged all citizens to;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cwork together and stand united against the decay of governance and the deepening constitutional crisis confronting our nation, working collectively to restore dignity, constitutionalism, justice, and protection for all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement from the Chamisa bureau comes amid heightened political tensions following recent allegations of attacks on civic leaders and the government’s push for contentious constitutional changes, which critics argue will further entrench executive power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
