TWO BURNT BEYOND RECOGNITION IN FIERY HEAD-ON COLLISION ON BEITBRIDGE-HARARE HIGHWAY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BEITBRIDGE \u2013 Two people were burnt beyond recognition while two others sustained serious burns following a horrific head-on collision involving two commercial trucks on the Beitbridge-Harare Highway Thursday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accident occurred around 8 PM near the Joko resettlement area, approximately 30 kilometres from Beitbridge town, when the two vehicles collided and burst into flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, the police officer commanding Beitbridge District, confirmed the crash to Zim GBC News Correspondent on Friday morning and provided details of the tragic incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Indications are that one of the trucks, which was empty, was travelling from Harare towards Beitbridge with only the driver,” said Chief Supt Ncube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The second truck was carrying a load of maize and had three people, including two passengers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The district police commander explained how the fatal collision unfolded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Upon reaching the Joko area, the driver who was heading towards Beitbridge tried to avoid hitting a cow that was on the road and encroached into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact caused both vehicles to erupt into flames, creating a scene of devastation on the major regional highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a result, the two vehicles caught fire and the driver and one passenger were burnt beyond recognition. Another passenger and the driver of the second truck sustained serious burns,” Chief Supt Ncube added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the injured survivors were immediately transported to Beitbridge Hospital, where medical officials describe their condition as serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bodies of the two deceased individuals have been conveyed to the hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examinations and positive identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have implored motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving, particularly during nighttime hours, and to remain vigilant for stray animals on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
