He further alleged that the Kwekwe City Council management is under the influence of the ruling party.

“If you do not come through father Mbizo you will not get stands so you should come through me so that I tell council to give you. If you are not a ZANU PF member in Mbizo then you might get the stand in Amaveni,” Mupereri said.

“We are not going back because we want all ZANU PF supporters to get stands.”

He went on to commend council officials, including the town clerk and housing director, and even urged Mayor Albert Zinhanga to join ZANU-PF to “remain in that position because he is good.”

In response, Mayor Zinhanga firmly rejected the claims, insisting that the council follows legal and non-partisan procedures in allocating land.

“Council doesn’t consider one’s political affiliation. We follow our waiting list. We follow the Constitution which dictates that we allocate 20% to special groups,” Zinhanga stated.

The dispute has raised concerns over transparency and fairness in housing allocation, a sensitive issue in many Zimbabwean urban areas where land distribution remains highly politicised.

Residents and housing rights activists are now calling for clarity and assurance that the allocation process is conducted without political bias, in line with constitutional provisions.

FOLLOW US FOR REAL-TIME UPDATES:
· X (Twitter): @ZimGbc
· Instagram: @ZimGBCNews
· TikTok: @ZimGBCNews_01
· Facebook: Zim GBC News
· YouTube: Zim GBC News

Get real-time alerts on WhatsApp:
+263 773 820 323

For in-depth coverage, visit our website: www.zimgbcnews.co.zw

Zim GBC News | Global News From An African Perspective©2026

Zim GBC News | Midlands Correspondent KWEKWE – A wave of controversy has swept through Kwekwe after former ZANU-PF MP for Mbizo, Vongaiishe Mupereri, claimed that residential stands in the…

[6

post-12005","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
