BULAWAYO \u2013 Bulawayo\u2019s major hospitals welcomed a festive influx of new life on Christmas Day, with a total of 50 babies delivered at Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day\u2019s standout arrival was a newborn boy weighing a remarkable 4.7kg, delivered at UBH. His mother, Patience Dzindikwa, named him \u201cMiracle,\u201d citing the extraordinary nature of his birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe is a true Christmas gift,\u201d Dzindikwa said, holding her son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo have a child of this size born so healthily on this day feels like a divine blessing. His name tells his story.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At UBH, the maternity ward recorded 23 births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was a busy but profoundly joyful shift,\u201d said our source from the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBringing life into the world on Christmas carries a special significance. Our staff showed incredible dedication, forgoing their own celebrations to ensure safe deliveries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Across the City, Mpilo Central Hospital reported 27 births. The largest baby delivered there was a girl weighing 4.52kg, while the smallest, a boy weighing 1.14kg, is receiving specialised neonatal care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur teams worked with unwavering commitment,\u201d stated Mpilo\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Sister Norma Mabhena<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDays like this highlight the critical, around-the-clock role of our maternity and paediatric staff. We are pleased both mother and baby are stable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For many new parents, the timing has added a lifelong layer of meaning to the holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First-time father Tawanda Nkomo, whose daughter was born at Mpilo, shared his elation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe were planning a quiet Christmas, but now we have the greatest celebration imaginable,\u201d Nkomo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHer birthday will always be a double celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Healthcare officials noted that the Christmas period often sees a consistent number of deliveries, requiring full staffing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a tradition in itself,\u201d added Sister Mabhrna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile we miss being with our families, there\u2019s no greater honour than helping usher in these precious new beginnings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
