{"id":11378,"date":"2025-12-24T13:33:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T13:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=11378"},"modified":"2025-12-24T13:33:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T13:33:25","slug":"police-investigate-string-of-armed-robberies-in-bulawayo-suburbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=11378","title":{"rendered":"Police Investigate String of Armed Robberies in Bulawayo Suburbs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Innocent Sibonginkosi Ncube | By Zim GBC News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BULAWAYO \u2013 Police in Bulawayo are investigating a series of five armed robberies that targeted residents in the Hillside and Old Luveve areas between December 17 and 20, with one incident involving an exchange of gunfire with cash-in-transit security guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a statement released by Bulawayo Provincial Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Msebele Nomalanga, the first incident occurred on December 17 at around 7 PM at Hillside Shopping Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe complainant, a security guard, and his colleague were tasked to collect USD $500. After parking, they were approached by four masked men, one armed with a pistol and a log,\u201d Inspector Nomalanga stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe accused persons started firing gun shots at the car which prompted the complainant to fire back. The accused persons then fled the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation escalated in the early hours of December 20, when a spree of four home invasions rocked the Old Luveve suburb in quick succession, all involving a similar group of three masked assailants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first home invasion at around 2 AM, three men armed with a machete, a pistol, and iron bars broke into a house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey demanded cash and the complainant gave them $24. They ransacked the house\u2026 and took two cellphones valued at $420,\u201d the police report detailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just 15 minutes later, a neighbouring home was targeted. The residents were threatened and robbed of $420 and R500. Another break-in followed at 2:45 AM, where $200 in cash was stolen.
