CHINHOYI \u2013 The Medical Superintendent of Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, Collett John Mawire (60), has appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates\u2019 Court facing allegations of criminal abuse of office and fraud, following investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mawire is accused of orchestrating a scheme involving the procurement of a vehicle canopy for his personal Isuzu D-Max using hospital funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in July 2024, Mawire purchased a canopy for US$1,800 from an unregistered company, Zim Canopies paying a US$500 deposit from his own money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is alleged to have later inflated the cost to US$2,100 and instructed the hospital\u2019s procurement department to retrospectively process the transaction without the required approval from the Ministry of Health and Child Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To legitimise the deal, Mawire allegedly used documentation from a separate registered company, Auto Quick Window Screen (Private) Limited to disguise it as Zim Canopies misleading the hospital\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fraudulent reimbursement resulted in a financial loss of US$300 to the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mawire was granted bail of US$300 under strict conditions, including regular reporting to ZACC and a ban on contacting witnesses. He is expected return to court on 13 January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out corruption and safeguarding public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case serves as a reminder that all public resources must be protected from fraud and misuse to ensure service delivery is not compromised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
