A direct and detailed public appeal has been made to President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s advisors, urging a fundamental shift in the President\u2019s public engagement strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appeal, penned by Ndaba M Nhuku in an open letter circulated on social media, calls for the Head of State to swap staged events for spontaneous, grassroots interactions with ordinary citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would be happy to see the President escorted around knocking unexpectedly and randomly at Harare residents’ doors and houses and asking them about daily life; accessibility of water, electricity, clinics and hospitals, schools their kids attend,\u201d Nhuku wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter suggests a campaign of surprise visits to government hospitals, clinics, schools, market stalls, and communal water points. Nhuku argues that such unscripted engagement would be more effective presidential communication than current practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPlease be advised that daily giving out cars to anyone for any reason is very unpresidential. That should be left to Chivhayo and gang,\u201d the letter states, in a pointed critique of high-profile vehicle donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe President has very serious issues to deal with that affect the whole country and not a few chosen individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nhuku contends that direct, unexpected engagement would market the President as a \u201clistening and down to earth concerned leader,\u201d whereas the \u201csocial media stunts\u201d of car handouts risk damaging his stature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appeal concludes with a notable political proposition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf the President comes out of these places and leaves with a smile and his sense of humour, I will campaign for his 3rd term.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter, signed off with \u201cNdatenda Hangu\u201d (Thank you), highlights a growing public discourse on the nature of political outreach and the visibility of leaders amidst a challenging socio-economic environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
