{"id":11146,"date":"2025-12-10T08:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T08:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=11146"},"modified":"2025-12-10T08:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T08:51:11","slug":"police-raises-alarm-over-surge-in-murder-cases-at-beer-outlets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=11146","title":{"rendered":"Police Raises Alarm Over Surge in Murder Cases at Beer Outlets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Venus Charumbira<br>Courts and Crimes Reporter<br>www.zimgbcnews.co.zw<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over a disturbing rise in murder cases taking place at beer drinking sites across the country, where minor disputes are increasingly turning fatal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a press statement, Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi gave detail of five separate murder incidents that occurred between 1 and 7 December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first case, Taurai Hungwe (29) was stabbed in the chest with an okapi knife by a suspect identified only as Prosper during an altercation at a night club in Beitbridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHungwe succumbed to his injuries on 3 December at Beitbridge District Hospital. The suspect remains at large\u201d, said Commissioner Paul Nyathi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another incident encountered on 4 December when Kudakwashe Mudyanevana (27) was fatally struck on the head with an axe by a suspect known as Tshuks at Claremont Business Centre, Fort Rixon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe suspect, with four accomplices reportedly attacked patrons at a bottle store before killing Mudyanevana. The group is still being sought by police\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leonard Chidhoma (45) was also killed on 5 December in Battlefields after being accused of spreading false rumours. He was attacked while drinking at Chibhawabhwawa and his lifeless body was discovered the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile in Bulawayo, Mongiwethu Godnows Dube (26) was murdered on 7 December after confronting Keith Dube over a previous beer-splashing incident during a snooker game in Magwegwe North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same day, Richard Sibanda (52) died after being repeatedly struck on the head with a stone by Tinotenda Gibson Madanhire (26) at a funeral in Lower Gweru. The two had reportedly been drinking together before the altercation.
