BULAWAYO \u2014 In a landmark medical achievement, a team of surgeons at Mpilo Central Hospital has successfully removed a massive 50-kilogram ovarian tumor from a 32-year-old woman, ending her five years of suffering and social stigma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The patient, Melody Ndlovu from Mberengwa, underwent the complex three-hour surgery, which doctors said was crucial to save her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recounting her ordeal, Ndlovu said the condition began in 2020 and was widely misunderstood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt first, I thought I was pregnant because I stopped having my monthly cycles. I visited our local hospital, and they said I had fibroids, but my stomach kept growing. I even sought help from prophets, but their prayers didn\u2019t work,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The enormous tumor took a severe toll on her physical health and personal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt affected my well-being. I couldn\u2019t walk or work properly because the mass was too heavy. Some people even accused me of infidelity because of my appearance,\u201d Ndlovu added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Elton Sengurayi, the lead surgeon, explained the critical dangers posed by the tumor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe initially struggled to identify the type of tumor, but during surgery, we confirmed it was ovarian. If left untreated, it would have continued to grow, putting pressure on her lungs, kidneys, and affecting her bowel movements,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the life-saving procedure was a success, Ndlovu remains under close medical supervision as she continues her recovery journey at the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
