\u200eKAMPALA, UGANDA \u2014 Uganda will this week host the first-ever African Disc Golf Summit, a groundbreaking event aimed at accelerating the growth of the sport across the continent.

\u200eThe four-day summit, running from November 12 to 15, is jointly organised by Disc Golf Uganda and the Paul McBeth Foundation, in partnership with UPlay, UDisc, and the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA).

\u200eDelegates from Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Estonia, and the United States of America are expected to attend, marking a historic milestone for the sport on the African continent.

\u200eThe summit aims to lay the foundation for disc golf\u2019s structured growth in Africa, with a strong focus on training, networking, and competition.

\u200eParticipants will engage in technical sessions on course design, coaching and teaching the game, event hosting, and data analytics, all facilitated by some of the sport\u2019s most influential international figures.

\u200eThe statement revealed that the event will lay the groundwork for a lasting system to grow disc golf across Africa. The initiative aims to equip local communities and sports leaders with the skills and resources needed to promote and sustain the sport.

\u200e\u201cOur goal is to build a strong and sustainable foundation for disc golf in Africa by empowering those on the ground to lead its growth,\u201d the statement read.

\u200eDisc golf has experienced explosive global growth in recent years, becoming one of the fastest-growing outdoor sports in the world. Its popularity surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it provided a safe, socially distanced recreational activity. The momentum has continued, with thousands of new courses being built worldwide.

\u200eToday, disc golf is played in over 80 countries, and more than 70% of existing courses were established in the last decade, according to data from Innova Disc Golf.

\u200eThe sport\u2019s appeal lies in its accessibility, affordability, and community spirit, as most courses are located in public parks and are free to play.
\u200e
\u200eUganda\u2019s hosting of the inaugural summit highlights Africa\u2019s growing interest in the sport and its potential to foster youth engagement, recreation, and tourism.

\u200eThe event also presents opportunities for networking and collaboration among countries eager to introduce and promote disc golf within their local sports ecosystems.
