NORTH WEST, South Africa \u2013 A series of bizarre and violent assaults by a lone male baboon has left a community in South Africa’s North West province living in fear, with several men hospitalised following attacks in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baboon, locally nicknamed “Somizi,” has allegedly sexually assaulted at least five men, leading to their hospitalisation. Experts note that the primate’s solitary behaviour is unusual, as baboons typically move in troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Specialist Lizzie McKenize, commenting on the situation, suggested the animal could be an outcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s likely this baboon was chased away from its troop, which explains why it is travelling alone,” McKenize stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, she admitted being unable to explain the primate’s specific sexual attraction to human males.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attacks have been described as terrifying by victims. One man, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted his ordeal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The baboon pinned me down, and I truly felt it wanted to kill me. It was only afterwards that I realised I had been raped.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a desperate attempt to protect their children, villagers have resorted to making male schoolchildren wear dresses, believing this will prevent them from being targeted by the baboon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a serious development, doctors have diagnosed several of the assaulted men with anal cancer, linking their acute pain and fatigue to the attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baboon continues to mystify locals and authorities, as it appears to exclusively target terrified male victims. The situation remains unresolved as the community seeks a solution to this unprecedented threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
