The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has issued a strong media statement condemning the ongoing operation of an illegal permanent roadblock in Gwanda, which they claim is effectively functioning as a border gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This roadblock, manned by officials from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), has become a source of significant distress for travelers coming from South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the MRP, individuals crossing the border face excessive delays due to repeated inspections and interrogations by ZIMRA and ZRP officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These procedures are redundant, as they have already been conducted at the Beitbridge Border Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party’s statement highlights the lack of basic facilities in the area, including the absence of proper seating and ablution blocks, leaving passengers to wait for hours in uncomfortable conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The situation is unacceptable,”
said Sisonke Sibambene, a spokesperson for the MRP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Travelers are subjected to exhaustive searches, and many are left stranded in unhygienic surroundings. Litter is piling up as people wait for hours without any facilities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the MRP alleges that ZIMRA officials are confiscating groceries, including perishable items like meat and milk, without any legal justification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They argue that this practice is punishing innocent citizens while failing to address the real issues of smuggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local residents have expressed their frustrations as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s humiliating to be treated this way,\u201d
said one who wished to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are just trying to return home, and instead, we are subjected to this nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another resident, who frequently travels between South Africa and Zimbabwe, commented,
\u201cIf they know about smuggling routes, why not focus on the real borders? This is just harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its statement, the MRP raises questions about whether similar roadblocks exist between Beitbridge and Harare, pointing out what they perceive as unfair targeting of Gwanda\u2014a town within Mthwakazi territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party has demanded the immediate dismantling of the illegal border post, stating that it serves no legitimate purpose and only facilitates corruption and harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We stand for peace and justice,”
Sibambene concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As public outcry grows, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to the MRP’s demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
