{"id":10698,"date":"2025-11-05T10:06:55","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T10:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=10698"},"modified":"2025-11-05T10:06:56","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T10:06:56","slug":"government-tightens-investor-oversight-to-safeguard-workers-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zimgbcnews.co.zw\/?p=10698","title":{"rendered":"Government Tightens Investor Oversight to Safeguard Workers\u2019 Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Dennis Ndlovu | Zim GBC News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government has intensified labour law enforcement and workplace monitoring to strengthen the protection of workers\u2019 rights, particularly in industries dominated by foreign investors, according to the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Dr Edgar Moyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with Zim GBCNews during the Ministry\u2019s Strategic Planning Workshop held recently in Bulawayo, Hon Moyo revealed that the number of workplace inspections conducted this year has surpassed all previous records a sign of government\u2019s growing determination to clamp down on labour violations and unfair employment practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are doing a lot. If you look at our inspection statistics, you\u2019ll see that this year we\u2019ve carried out far more than ever before. This increase directly responds to rising reports of worker abuse,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister acknowledged that some international critics have accused Zimbabwe of being overly stringent in its labour protections but insisted that the government will continue to uphold its legal and moral duty to defend workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestors entering Zimbabwe must comply with our laws. Our inspectorate is vigilant in ensuring that. While we can\u2019t be everywhere at once, our officers are ready to act swiftly when reports of abuse surface,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To bolster monitoring, the Ministry has introduced inter-ministerial inspection teams that include officials from the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), the police, and other key ministries such as Mines, particularly in mining regions.
