HARARE \u2013 Political tensions have escalated dramatically after former MP Temba Mliswa launched a scathing attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, accusing him of betrayal and deliberate sabotage of the President during a period of intense internal party pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a lengthy social media post on Monday, Mliswa detailed what he called Charamba’s long record of disloyalty, claiming the spokesperson had failed in his duties when Mnangagwa faced internal attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Why are some of you acting surprised by allegations that George Charamba should be investigated for letting down the President. The guy has a history for betraying his principals!” Mliswa wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He referenced a previous confrontation with the late former First Lady Grace Mugabe, stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Mai Mugabe realised it and called him out in public before. While at that time his cause appeared noble the underlying factor was still betrayal of a principal!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mliswa alleged that Charamba’s conduct during the President’s recent political challenges was particularly telling. “His lackadaisical approach is not just absence of passion and initiative but a wilful removal of those factors to sabotage the President,” he claimed, adding that exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo was “actually doing a better job from a propaganda perspective advancing the Presidential cause.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charamba fired back with equal venom, dismissing Mliswa as irrelevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I HARDLY HAVE TIME FOR A FAILED OPPOSITION FIGURE WHO SEEKS TO PLAY SAVIOUR TO MY PRINCIPAL OR TO ZANU PF WHICH HE IS YET TO RE-JOIN,” Charamba responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I WILL ONLY TAKE NOTICE OF HIS ERRANT VIEWS WHEN HE BECOMES A MEMBER OF ZANU PF\u2026 FOR NOW HE IS A MERE TALKATIVE NOBODY WHO HAS NO LESSONS FOR ME! YOU CAN ADVISE HIM TO GO HANG ON A BANANA TREE.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The explosive exchange comes amid significant political turmoil within ZANU-PF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party recently announced at its annual conference in Mutare that it would move to extend President Mnangagwa’s term until 2030 through constitutional amendments, a move that has drawn both internal criticism and legal challenges from opposition figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
