BULAWAYO \u2013 The City of Kings has recorded one of the lowest driving test pass rates in the country, with official figures revealing that only 35.4 percent of candidates succeeded in obtaining their Certificate of Competency during the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the latest Zimstat Transport Statistics Report, Bulawayo\u2019s performance was significantly below the national average of 52.9 percent. Out of 4,292 individuals who attempted the test, a mere 1,521 passed, leaving the majority to reconsider their driving ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
National Performance Highlights Training Gaps<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report, which covers tests taken between April and June 2025, shows considerable variation across provinces. Mashonaland East led with an impressive 67.6 percent pass rate, followed by Harare at 66.3 percent. In contrast, Matabeleland South recorded 37.1 percent, while Midlands trailed at just 34.6 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local driving instructors attribute Bulawayo\u2019s poor performance to a combination of nerves, inadequate preparation, and the intimidating nature of the test itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have seen people who can change gears like pros, but once they see the officer with a clipboard, they forget everything, even where the indicator is,\u201d one experienced instructor told Zim GBC News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Road Safety Concerns Raised<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The consistently low pass rates nationwide have raised concerns about driver competence and road safety standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With growing traffic volumes across Zimbabwe\u2019s urban centers, experts emphasize the need for improved training methodologies and more comprehensive learner education programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statistics highlight an urgent need for enhanced driver training standards to ensure new motorists can safely navigate Zimbabwe\u2019s roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
