A stark contrast in public directives has emerged regarding Thursday, 17 October 2025, with the ruling ZANU PF party officially declaring it a regular working day, while a coalition of citizens has planned a major protest for the same date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a public statement, ZANU PF moved to quell any uncertainty, firmly stating that the day would proceed as normal across the country. The party urged citizens to disregard what it termed as disruptive false reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe public is hereby informed that 17 October 2025 remains a normal working day across Zimbabwe. All citizens are encouraged to continue with their daily duties and responsibilities as usual,\u201d the party\u2019s statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It further cautioned the populace, adding,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo not be deceived by individuals seeking to undermine our nation’s peace and progress for their personal interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This declaration stands in direct opposition to a separate call to action circulated by a group identifying as \u201cThe People of Zimbabwe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a lengthy document titled \u201cA Patriotic Call to Action,\u201d the group has called for a \u201cMillion Citizen March\u201d under the theme \u201cEnough is Enough!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group\u2019s manifesto cites allegations of high-level corruption and state capture as the primary reasons for the demonstration. \u201cFor too long, we have watched as the wealth of our beloved country\u2026 has been systematically looted,\u201d the document states, accusing a \u201ccriminal cartel\u201d of plundering state resources with impunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The planned march is scheduled to take place at Robert Mugabe Square in Harare at 8:00 AM. Organizers have framed the event not as a protest, but as a \u201csolemn assembly of patriots\u201d demanding accountability and action against corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With these two conflicting narratives, the day of October 17th is set against a backdrop of political tension, with the government and ruling party affirming a business-as-usual approach while citizen groups mobilize for a significant public demonstration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
