Bitumen World (Private) Limited has issued a firm denial after facing bribery allegations linked to senior government officials, allegations first made public by former parliamentary committee chairperson Dr. Energy Mutodi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The controversy erupted when Mutodi, the Member of Parliament for Bikita South, posted on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that Treasury Secretary Mr. George Guvamatanga was demanding a US$200,000 kickback for every US$2 million payment authorized for the company’s road contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a swift and direct response, Bitumen World moved to distance itself from the claims. In a statement released by its CEO, Andre Zietsman, the company stated it has never been solicited for any illicit payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBitumen World (Private) Limited would like to dissociate itself from the post made by Dr Energy Mutodi to the extent that the contents thereof relate to it,\u201d the company stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe categorically state that we have not received any solicitations from Mr George Guvamatanga.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company reaffirmed its commitment to ethical dealings, emphasizing its transparent collaboration with the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBitumen World remains firmly committed to supporting the government\u2019s infrastructure development agenda,\u201d Zietsman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe continue to work with relevant ministries and agencies to deliver quality, sustainable projects that strengthen the national road network and contribute to long-term economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The social media allegations, which spread rapidly online, ignited a fierce public debate concerning transparency and corruption within government contracting processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the uproar, Mutodi was removed from his position as chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has since retracted his claims, admitting he could not substantiate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
